“Hello! How are you? So, I am the one who blew up the moon.”

“ . . . huh ” -_-||

“Next year, I intend to do the same thing to planet Earth. But never mind that now I am going to be your new teacher. Isn’t that exciting?!”

There I was late at night stumbling around the internet out of boredom, looking for a new movie to watch when I came across “Assassination Classroom”. I liked the sound of the title, so I decided to give this anime a try. Started with the trailer — I knew it will have a good sense of humor at the least. Don’t let the comments fool you. True, it is a weird teaser, but the show has a lot more to offer. The comedic timing in this show is spectacular.

The premise about a class of students trying to literally kill their teacher, might probably make you ask yourself if this is a suitable series for you. This series takes a rather different approach to things. But I have to say, it is weirdly interesting at heart.

Hey! Don’t come barking at me for what I am writing, because unlike the bloodthirsty sound of it, the show is actually very light-hearted… In fact, filled with a bunch of life lessons.

This series takes a satirical stab at the genre and transform it into a rather amusing series with action-packed comedy of everyday school life.

Every morning involves them greeting their a big smiley faced, a body full of tentacles, the personality of an easygoing guy, slightly perverted and a not-so-ordinary teacher. What more could you ask for? :)

The class Koro Sensei teaches is Class 3E, which is basically used as a catalyst and motivation for the rest of the school to not end up like them. The twist here is that you won’t find a more dedicated teacher than Koro Sensei. The willingness to sacrifice himself for the betterment of his students is second to none. ( … you also won’t find a teacher that oozes slime and can turn different colors while moving at Mach-20)

The appealing part about him is that he is consciously aware of their motivations but also gives encouragement to these students for trying while teaching them life lessons.

“Those who fail to apply themselves who at the moment of truth decide to sit back and let the chips fall where they may, are destined for disappointment.”

The only downside I find of this show is that not every character/student in the class gets a prominent spotlight

Now, it’s nigh impossible for the show to give an adequate amount of screen-time or development for every single person, so many of them are as one-dimensional as they come.

Although I liked the series as it is, I can’t help but acknowledge the fact that no amount of guns, bodacious babes, or crazy bad guys could stop me from thinking that this show was designed for a way younger crowd than it was intended for. The drama present didn’t move me like it should have. Sometimes, I could just see them acting too childish.

All that being said, it is still worth a watch. It gives a lot of inspiration and life lessons as well. I believe Assassination Classroom does full justice to the dub version, unlike most other anime shows. In fact, the English dialogues are funnier sometimes.

I loved how randomly humorous the show gets. Insane reference jokes for you out of nowhere.

Bonus: It has a good ending theme:

Background to the story:

Earth is threatened by the sudden appearance of an enormously powerful monster who apparently destroyed 70% of the Moon, leaving it permanently shaped like a crescent. The monster claims that within a year he will destroy the planet next, but he offers mankind a chance to avert this fate. In class 3-E of a Junior High School, he starts working as a homeroom teacher where he teaches his students regular subjects, as well as the ways of assassination. The Japanese government promises a reward of ¥10 billion to whoever among the students succeeds in killing the creature, whom they have named “Koro-sensei” (殺せんせ). However, this proves to be a highly unachievable task, as not only does he have several superpowers at his disposal, including; accelerated regeneration, visual cloning, an invincible form, and the ability to move and fly at Mach 20, but he is also the best teacher they could ask for, helping them to improve their grades, individual skills, and prospects for the future.
